Semaine de la Francophonie

This poster was created for the ‘Semaine de la Francophonie’ event held at Vanier College, for the year 2022. This occasion was to celebrate and experience some of the French culture such as literature, film, popular figures, etc. The theme for this particular year was ‘Interconnection’, and we had to include this feature into the design of the poster. This was for a contest and the winners' poster would be the one to be displayed around the school.

Challenge

The most difficult part of this project was trying to incorporate the theme of ‘Interconnection’ into the design. I didn’t want to have a common or generic design; I wanted it to stand out from the other posters and be entirely unique. I also had a lot of trouble trying to make the title stand out. Because the main focus is meant to be directed into the illustrations, I found that it was overshadowing the title and the information a lot.

Solution

Going into this, my idea for the theme was to have an apartment block of people, one of the most connected spaces. I wanted to show the people living in their own blocks, but ultimately being very close to one another. I had some of the characters reaching out and passing something along to another person through the window to further demonstrate this. I also decided to add the information in some of the windows so that it could stand out just as much as the designs.
